“The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” an action movie, was released by Walt Disney Studios in 2010. It tells the story of the Disney animation “Fantasia.†You might remember some scenes from “Fantasia” in this movie. Balthazar Blake, the sorcerer, is played by Nicolas Cage.
One day in New York City, Dave, the main character and a university student, is designated as “The sorcerer’s apprentice” by Balthazar. Balthazar wants to defeat another sorcerer, Maxim Horvath, and knows that he cannot take revenge alone so he chooses the everyday boy, Dave. Dave is taught how to use magic and practices a lot. However, Dave makes only small progress each day and he does not know the reason why he was elected as the apprentice. Moreover, he wants Becky to be his girlfriend but he cannot meet her because of his magic studies. When he wants to quit the apprenticeship, Balthazar understands his feeling because has also had a sad experience with his girlfriend, Veronica. Balthazar knows that Dave does not have confidence and courage and that this prevents his success in magic. Actually, Balthazar believes that Dave is the greatest apprentice and he will able to use magic. When Dave finally gets the chance to use his magic against Maxim Horvach, he succeeds.
It is hard for Dave to practice and work for his master, Balthazar. Once he tries to quit but he does not give up to be a good apprentice. At the beginning, he does not believe that he will able to get magical skill. However, by working every single day and making small progress he eventually makes big progress and finally has success. In reality, “magic” does not exist. Â However, this movie shows the audience that small steps are important. Believing in ourselves, even if what we want is impossible, and having courage and confidence make us stronger.
